Terriers fall in OT in Game 1 to Humboldt

The Yorkton Terriers definately played well enough to win on Friday night but it was the Humboldt Broncos cheering at the end as they won Game 1 of the Canalta Cup in overtime 3-2 to take a 1-0 series lead in the SJHL Final.

There wasn't any scoring in the first frame but some glorious chances both ways,

The Broncos would hit the scoreboard first in the 2nd as Logan Sproule would rip a slap shot past A screened Dawson McAuley to make it 1-0. They would make it 2-0 when Joey Davies would capitalize on a Terrier turnover to snap it past the Terrier goalie for his 12th of the playoffs . But the Terriers would come back as Brady Norrish would rip a slap shot of his own on the Powerplay past Matt Hyrnkiw for his 6th to make it a 2-1 hockey game.

It would stay at that score until half through the third when 16 year old Dakota Odgers would bang home a loose puck for his 2nd of the playoffs tie it up at 2-2 after regulation.

But just 1:01 in the overtime, Alex Forsberg would get his 1st of the playoffs to make it a 3-2 Broncos Game 1 victory.

Hyrnkiw stopped 32 of 34 shots for the win while Dawsom McAuley stopped 20 shots in a losing cause..

York PP- 2 for 5
Hum PP- 1 for 4

The Terriers now down 1-0 in the series with Game 2 taking place on Sunday at the FAA 7:20/7:30 on GX94

  2. This must be a Mils fan. It is one game and someone has to be down 1 at the end of it. If the Broncos lost would you be saying the Broncos are 3 away from golfing????? If this is a Terrier fan then you sure don't have much faith in the boys and even if they do lose to the Broncos I am proud of them and I am sure most of the true fans are unlike that of the fair weather fans who made this comment.

  3. Anon #1, if you are a Terriers fans, you sure aren't much of one. Sounds a lot of a bitter fan of some other team...but who knows.

  4. It probably is a Yorkton fan.do not blame everything always on Mills fans. Face it you never had much fan support all season and even in your run with Estevan. Melville fans are behind their team no matter what and the crowds for our Playoffs were great. Go Broncos.

  5. The mils get a brand new arena and start to support their team and thats fantastic. There were many a years where that support wasn't there. Show some class James because it wasnt always that way.

  6. What do you mean James we averaged 800 to 900 fans all year.

  7. Mills have always supported their team. Not as many fans in the old Stadium but we are behind our team always. Today you had a playoff final game and had 1525 fans; for a city your size you should have 2200 for the final playoff series. No use arguing.

  8. But we are in the finals and have been in 3 times in the last 4 years. How many fans were in the seats for the Mils during the finals last year or the year before that?? Oh wait you weren't in the finals for a while. By the way how many banners do you have hanging in the Credit Union place?? Maybe we havn't won won in a while but we have and have made it to the finals more than the Mils. If the only thing you can brag about is the amount of fans the Mils can put in the seats I will let you have that. I would rather brag about the banners and how many times we have advanced further than the Mils.

  9. James....to say that you supported your team even though there wasn't as many fans in the old stadium, just doesn't make sense. That is how you are measuring the terriers support is by numbers of fans. Look back at the numbers, your arguments really only hold because fan support went way up when the new building came in. Same thing happened in Estevan as well.

  11. How can you say all Yorkton Fans are idiots. Yes some are and I am embarrased to be associated with them. I could say all Mil fans are idiots but I know a few and talk with them at the games and we get along great. I love the fact that Mils have such a great fan base and when we play each other it gets both group of fans going. To say all Mil fans are idoits just because of the Mil fan who posted above is an idiot is not fair to the 95% of the fans who are just great supporters.
