The Melville Millionaires would strike first in their Best of 3 Wild-Card series on Sunday night by beating the Weyburn Red Wings 3-2 in overtime at Crescent Point Place.
The Mils would start Game number 1 on the right foot as just 9:11 into the 1st as Montana Streit would find Damian Bentz would beat Arik Weersink five-hole to make it 1-0 early on. The Red Wings would respond just under 3 minutes later as Landon Walter would center it out towards the slot and it would go in off a Mils dman and past Colby Entz to make it a 1-1 tie after 20 minutes.
After a scoreless 2nd, the Red Wings would grab their first lead 12:15 into the 3rd as Landon Walters would sneak home his 2nd of the night over the left glove of the Mils net minder to make it 2-1. But the Mils with goalie pulled would tie it up as with 1:55 left, Montana Streit would re-direct in a Damian Bentz pass by Arik Weersink to even it a 2-2 and send it to the overtime period.
In the overtime, the Mils dominated the period and capitalized on a power play just 7:23 into it as Shane Sherban (pictured above) would walk across from the top of the left circle and his wrister would go top shelf for his 1st of the playoffs to give the Mils the victory in Game 1.
Mils netminder Colby Entz made 36 saves on 38 shots to earn him his first SJHL Playoff win while Arik Weersink was also very solid in the Wings' net turning aside 40 shots in the losing cause.
Melville will have a chance now to wrap it up on Tuesday night when they host Game 2 from the Horizon Credit Union Center at 7:30. GX94 will broadcast the game starting after the GX94 Spring Radio Auction with Yorkton Dodge Junior Playoff Hockey, starting at 8PM.
