The Waywayseecappo Wolverines are excited to announce the hiring of Troy Hickman, who will take over the role as Director of Scouting.
Hickman, who resides in Brandon with his family, was born and raised in Russell. After a couple stops in the MJHL and SJHL during his playing career, he was traded to the Wolverines before the start of his 20-year-old season.
Following his junior career, the Russell product has spent the last seven years as a scout for the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders, and will continue to do so as he takes on his new position with the Wolverines.
“I was approached by Taylor (Harnett) prior to the draft, asking if I would interested in the Director of Scouting position,” Hickman said.
The rest is now history…Following Hickman’s first draft with the club, he was able to take in back to back days of MJHL Development Camp, where seven Wolverines prospects took to the ice in Winnipeg during the end of July.
“It’s exciting to think about the future direction of the club and being part of the club’s community. I’m excited to see long time fans and friends around the rink watching the games, plus being able to work with people from the surrounding communities.”
The focus for Hickman starts and ends with finding quality young men, who will help lead the team in the right direction for years to come.
“As far as new direction, my role right now is to evaluate prospects. Looking for players that want to be a part of the organization and are committed to the team’s success. If I do my job well, the players themselves will build their community and move the team in the right direction,” Hickman concluded.
