Wapella's Hayhurst named to Hockey Canada Under-18 Selection Camp roster

Canada’s national women’s team programs will officially kick off the 2018-19 season this week with the start of Canada’s National Women’s Development Team and Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team selection camps being hosted in Calgary from Aug. 4th to 12th.

Among the 43 players selected selected to the Under-18 selection camp is Wapella product and Melville Prairie Fire defenceman Ally Hayhurst.

"It's pretty honourable to be selected, as not many girls in the country get the chance to play for Canada, so its just an honour to be selected", Hayhurst said in an interview on Wednesday.

Hayhurst, a Nipissing University commit had 6 goals, 12 assists for 18 points in 27 games with the Prairie Fire this past season and was named a Sask. Female Midget AAA Hockey League All-Star.

She also represented Saskatchewan at the National Under 18 Hockey Championships this past season.

Hayhurst says she has a goal for herself when she heads to Calgary.

"Just want to play my best, cause you never know, all of us girls are in the same boat we are all a little bit nervous, but just do what you can and play my game"

From Aug. 6-11, 43 under-18 team camp invitees – six goaltenders, 14 defencemen, and 23 forwards – will be split into two teams, Red and White, and participate in practices and intrasquad games, off-ice training, fitness testing, and classroom sessions.

Of the 43 players participating in camp, a team will be selected to represent Canada as members of the National Women’s Under-18 Team when they take on the United States in a three-game series in Calgary, Aug. 16-19.
