Melville falls in Viterra division battle in Weyburn on Wednesday night

The Melville Millionaires dropped their 3rd straight game to start their regular season on Friday night as they fell 5-2 to the Weyburn Red Wings at Crescent Point Place.

The Red Wings would strike first 9:24 into the 1st period on the powerplay as Ben Hiltz would finish off a nice passing play from Cade Kowalski and slip home his 3rd of the season to make it 1-0. Then just 1:11 later, Hiltz would strike again to give his club a two goal lead. The Wings weren't done there in the first as this time it would be Sean Olson jumping on a rebound and slipping it by goaltender Colby Entz to give Weyburn a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Shots were 13-12 Melville after 1 period.

Weyburn would add to their head 7:18 into the 2nd period as Sean Olson would pick up a loose puck and slide it past Entz for his 1st of the season to make it a 4 goal lead. The Mils would respond just a few minutes as Jaden Shewchuk would head in on a breakaway and then slide one five-hole on Riley Lamb for his 2nd of the season and it would make it a 4-1 game. But the Wings would respond the other as Will Cruise would capitalize on a short-handed chance to regain the Wings their 4 goal lead at 5-1 after 40 minutes.

Shots after 2 were 24-21 Melville.

The Mils would get the only goal of the third just under a couple minutes in as Melville product Tyler Pryhitka would walk in from the right point and rip a howitzer of a slap shot past Lamb for his 1st SJHL goal to push the Mils to 3 goal deficit but thats as close as they would get.

Riley Lamb made 38 saves in the Wings goal for his 2nd straight win while Colby Entz took the loss makingg 26 saves.

The Mils next game will be on Friday night when they host the Notre Dame Hounds at 7:30, while the the Red Wings will be in Yorkton for the Terriers home opener also on Friday night.
