Wolverines doubled up 2-1 by Virden on Thursday night

The Wayway Wolverines had their 2 game win streak snapped as the Virden Oil Capitals got their 4th win in a row defeating the Wolverines on Thursday night 2-1.

The Oil Caps were able to catch maybe a little bus legs from the Wolverines squad, as they were all over Wayway early on, and the home team would be the only team to strike in the opening period as Soren Frederickson would sneak behind the Wolverine D and take a nice feed from Mack Hardy and slide it five-hole on Brandon Holtby for his 28th of the year to give the Oil Caps a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

After a scoreless 2nd period, the Wolverines only took 39 seconds into the 3rd to get the equalizer as Rylee Zimmer would finish off a nice passing play from linemates George Spilchal and Robert Briem and bang home his 8th of the season to tie things up at 1-1. It had the looks that both team might get a much needed point, but Kurt Johnas had other ideas as with just 3:21 remaining the former Yorkton Terrier deflected home his 2nd of the MJHL season to give his team that much need extra point and 2-1 win.

In the battle of the backup goalies tonight, Cameron Pateman made 21 saves for his 8th victory of the season while Brandon Holtby was sensational for the Wolverines making 37 saves in a losing cause.

The Wolverines' next couple games will be big as they will both be against the Dauphin Kings starting Saturday in Dauphin. Kings moved ahead of Wayway into 8th in the MJHL standings after they were victorious tonight, 4-3 over Winnipeg.
