B. Martin's 2 goals helps Wayway clip past Swan Valley 4-1 on home ice

The Wayway Wolverines snapped their 3 game losing streak as they defeated the visiting Swan Valley Stampeders 4-1 on Friday night on home ice.

In the 1st period, the Wolverines would strike early on as Brendan Martin with dangle his way through some Stampeder defenders and go top shelf on Connor Slipp for his 6th of the season to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. Shots 13-10 Wayway.

The Stampeders get some opportunities to even things up in the middle frame as they would get a total of 3 power play opportunities, but they would not be able to convert on any of them. It would then be the Wolverines who would add to their lead as Brandon Stanley would capitalize on a Swan turnover at the Wayway blueline and he would go in alone on the Stamps goaltender & slip it five-hole for his team-leading 15th of the year to give them home side a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes. Shots after 2 periods, 25-18 Wayway.

Brian Harris would make it a 1 goal game just 4:22 into the 3rd as he would jam home his 6th of the season for Swan to make it 2-1. But Brendan Martin would add some insurance with 4:15 to go and then Layne Anderson would ice it into the empty net to give Wayway the 4-1 win.

McKenzie Chalmers got the win in net against his former team making 27 saves for Wayway while Connor Slipp made 31 saves in the losing cause.

Wayway and Swan Valley both go right back at it on Saturday night as the Wolverines host the Neepawa Natives and the Stamps entertain the Selkirk Steelers. Both games are 7:30 puck drops.
