Stamps; Wolverines both drop their MJHL Showcase Openers

The Swan Valley Stampeders had their 2 game win streak snapped as they fell 3-1 to the Winkler Flyers in their opener at the MJHL Showcase in Winnipeg

In the 1st, the Flyers would get the lone marker as it would be Nolan McGuire banging home his 13th goal of the season to give Winkler a 1-0 lead after 1 period. Shots 17-7 Flyers.

The Flyers would add a couple more in the middle frame as first of it would be Braden Billaney blocking a shot as his own line then going in alone on Brett Evans and sniping home his 9th of the season to make it 2-0. Then just 1:32 later, Ian MacKey would finish off a nice passing play from Matt Christian to redirect home his 6th of the year to give the Flyers a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes. Shots 30-10 Winkler.

The Stamps would be able to get one in the 3rd on a powerplay goal by Daylin Smallchild, his 3rd of the season but thats as close as they would get as the Flyers would hang on for the 2 goal win.

Troy Martyniuk turned aside 15 of 16 shots for his 2nd victory of the season while Brett Evans made 35 saves in the losing cause.

The Stamps wrap up their MJHL showcase on Wednesday at 4PM when they take on the Winnipeg Blues at the MTS IcePlex

Elsewhere locally in the MJHL,

The Wayway Wolverines fell to the hometown Winnipeg Blues 5-4.
