Stampeders; Wolverines both victorious on Friday Night


The Wayway Wolverines snapped their 10 game losing streak, beating the Dauphin Kings 5-1 on the road on Friday night.

In the 1st after a back and forth start it would be the Wolverines getting the lone goal of the period as Dylan Tanner would go five-hole on Brandon Holtby for his 4th of the season to make it 1-0 after 1 period. Shots 12-10 Dauphin.

Wayway would add to their lead just 2:32 into the 2nd period as Brendan Martin would grab a loose puck and slip it over a sprawled out Holtby for the Thunder Bay product would snipe home his 5th of the season to make it 2-0. Before the 2nd period could end the Wolverines would add one more as Riley Martin would follow up on a rebound and pot home his 3rd of the season to make it 3-1 Wayway after 40 minutes.

In the 3rd, it was more of the same for the Wolverines as this time it would be Mack McPhee providing the offence going top shelf on Holtby for his 2nd of the season to make it a 4 goal Wolverine game. The Kings would get on the board with just over 7 to go in regulation as Keaton Leininger would beat McKenzie Chalmers short side, but thats as close as they would get as Quinton Cubbon would re-direct home his 1st of the season to complete the scoring and the 4 goal Wolverine victory.

McKenzie Chalmers (pictured above) got his 2nd win of the season for the Wolverines making 39 saves while former Wayway Wolverine Brandon Holtby made 29 saves in the loss.

Wolverines will go right back at it on Saturday night as they look for their 2nd straight hosting the Neepawa Natives at 7:30.


Elsewhere in the MJHL on Friday night ,

Trevar Mann had 2 goals & 2 assists to lead the Swan Valley Stampeders to a 6-4 win over the Portage Terriers at the Centennial Arena.

Cody Ellingson Keaton Jameson, Connor Navrot and Jack Leblanc also scored for the Stamps while Connor Slipp made 23 saves in the win.

Chase Brakel (2G 2A) and Jeremy Leipsic (4A) led the way for the Terriers with 4 points each.

The two teams will go right back at it against each other on Saturday night at the Centennial Arena at 7:30.

In the SJHL,

Yorkton Terrier net minder did all he could stopping 45 of 46 shots but the Terriers drop their 2nd straight road game, 2-0 to the league-leading Battlefords North Stars

Coby Downs and Layne Young scored for the Stars who got a 19 save shutout from Joel Gryzbowski in the Stars' net.

The Terriers return back to home ice on Sunday night when they host the Humboldt Broncos at the Farrell Agencies Arena. GX94 will broadcast the game with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey, pregame 5:50 pxp at 6PM.
