Wolverines; Stampeders lose 2nd games at MJHL Showcase in Winnipeg

The Wayway Wolverines got a point but they fell in their final game of the MJHL Showcase, 4-3 in overtime to the 2nd place Winkler Flyers.

In the first period, the Flyers would get the lone marker as Coltyn Bates would get a loose puck in the high slot and go top shelf on McKenzie Chalmers for 6th of the season to give Winkler a 1-0 lead after 1 period with the shots being 13-10 Flyers.

The Wolverines would even it on the power play just 3:58 into the 2nd period as Landyn Cochrane would finish off a nice passing play and he would jam home his 10th of the season to make it 1-1. But just a short time later at the 7:49 mark of the middle frame the Flyers would regain their one goal lead as Will Blake would re-direct home his 7th of the year to make it 2-1 Winkler after 40 minutes. Shots even at 19-19

Another PP goal for the Wolverines would tie things up as Trevor Kavanaugh would hammer home his 11th of the season to make it 2-2. But Coltyn Bates would once again answer jamming home his 2nd of the night to regain the Flyers 1 goal lead at 3-2. But Landyn Cochrane would force overtime with 3:36 left to make it 3-3 headed to overtime.

In the extra period it would be Brandon MB's Coltyn Bates completing the hat-trick in the final minute to give the Flyers the extra point and 1 goal victory.

Cole Weaver would get his 16th win of the season making 30 saves on 36 shots for the Flyers while McKenzie Chalmers made 31 saves in the losing cause.


Also at the MJHL Showcase,

The Swan Valley Stampeders lost their 2nd straight at the MJHL showcase as they lost on Wednesday 7-1 to the Winnipeg Blues.

Boedy Vaeth had the lone marker for the Stamps while Dexter Kuczek had 1 goal & 2 assists to lead the way for the Blues.

Jacob Gnidziejko made 16 saves in the win while Connor Slipp gave up 7 goals on 39 shots in the Stamps' net.

The Stamps are back in action on Friday night when they visit the Wayway Wolverines. GX94 will broadcast the game with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey, pregame 7:20 pxp at 7:30 from the Wayway Arena Complex.

In the SJHL,

Jared Legien, Tyler Baier and McKenzie Welke scored for Yorkton as the Terriers held on for a 3-2 win over the Melfort Mustangs at the FAA.

Nathan Hargrave made 19 saves on 21 shots to earn his 16th victory of the season.

Terriers wrap up their pre Christmas break schedule on Saturday night as they host the Battlefords North Stars at 7:30
