Mils snap 3 game slide with 5-4 win over Notre Dame

The Melville Millionaires snapped their 3 game winning streak on Wednesday night slipping by the Notre Dame Hounds 5-4 at the Horizon Credit Union Center.

The Mils would strike first just 1:19 into the 1st as Damian Bentz would direct home his 6th of the season to make it 1-0. The Hounds would even it up with a PP goal by Chaz Smedsrud for his 4th of the year to make it 1-1. Teal Sobkowicz would regain the Mils 1 goal lead with his 6th on the power play to make it 2-1 for the home side. But once again that Hounds power play would strike as former Millionaire Tyler Podgorenko would one-time home his 12th of the season to even it up at 2-2 after 20 mins.

The Hounds would grab their first lead just 1:40 into the middle frame as SJHL point leader Ben Duperrault would hammer home his 22nd to make it 3-2. Then just 3:05 later, the Mils even it back up as Mitchell Torrens (pictured above) would take a pass in the high slot and go top shelf on the Hounds netminder for his 1st SJHL goal to make it a 3-3 game. Then just a short time later, Teal Sobkowicz would bang home his 2nd of the nigh & 7th of the year to put the back up at 4-3 after 40 minutes.

It would stay 4-3 until the 13:56 point of the 3rd as Tucker Scantlebury would finish off a nice passing play to get the eventual game winner, his 6th of the campaign to make it 5-3 Mils. The Hounds would get one late with the goalie pulled off the stick of Connor McLean but that's as close as they would get as the Mils would hang on for the 1 goal win, their 13th victory of the season.

Mils netminder and Churchbridge product Colby Entz made 34 saves to improve his record to 5-3 on the season while Jordan Greenfield-Flemon took the loss making 28 saves on 33 shots.

The Mils return to action on Saturday night when they visit the Elgar Peterson Arena to battle the Humboldt Broncos at 7:30.
