Local Weekend Sports Recap

MJHL
The Swan Valley Stampeders earned 4 out of a possible 6 points during their 3 game weekend road-trip that wrapped up yesterday (Sun).

Tommy Cardinal had 1G 2A while Mikael Foucher made 40 stops to lead the Stamps to a 6-2 victory over the Portage Terriers on Sunday night.

Callum Fortin, Frazer Dodd, Nathan, Trevor Schroder and Josh Beauchemin also scored for Swan.

On Saturday, Parker Johnson scored a couple of goals but Swan Valley fell 5-4 in Winkler.

The Stamps opened up the trip on Friday with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Flyers.

Swan Valley will return to action on Thursday night when they visit the Waywayseecappo Wolverines. GX94 will broadcast the game with the pregame show kicking off at 7:20 and the play by play starting at 7:30PM.


Meanwhile the Waywayseecappo Wolverines split their two road games over the weekend.

On Saturday, Kris Bladen and Nick Doyle had a goal an an assist each to lead the Wolverines toa 5-4 victory over the Selkirk Steelers.

Then on Sunday, the Wolverines got goals from Gerrik Ripley, Rayman Bassi and Jaymes Knee as they stormed back from three goals down before falling 4-3 to the Steinbach Pistons.

Zach Purcell scored the game winner for the Pistons with only 2:27 left in regulation time.

SJHL
The Yorkton Hyundai Terriers had their record drop to 5-2-1 on their stretch of 9 road games after falling on Saturday, 2-0 to the Weyburn Red Wings.

Liam Rutten and Rhett Frey scored for the Wings who got a 34 save shutout from Joseph Young in the win.

Ryan Ouellette turned aside 33 of 35 shots in the loss.

The Terriers' next game will be on Wednesday as they wrap up their road-stretch visiting the Notre Dame Hounds. GX94 will broadcast the game with the "Sask Milk" pregame show kicking at 7:50 from Wilcox.

SHSAA Provincial Girls Volleyball were held this past weekend.

2019 Saskatchewan High School Provincial Girls Volleyball Championships was held across the province this past weekend.

In the 2A Girls Championship in Foam Lake, Macklin captured the Gold Medal after a 2 set victory over Rocanville.

In the Bronze Medal game, it was Pierceland sweeping Wakaw in 2 sets.

In the 3A Girls Provincials from Assiniboia, Kipling captured a Bronze Medal after defeating the Unity Lazers 2 sets to none.

Meanwhile Moose Jaw Vanier won the Gold medal in the 4A Girls Championships in Fort Qu'Appelle after a 3 set victory over the Nipawin Bears.

Moose Jaw Peacock earned the third place after defeating Meadow Lake 2 sets to 1 in the Bronze Medal game.
