STAMPS KICK-OFF 2020 WITH A HOME LOSS TO WINKLER

The Swan Valley Stampeders kicked off their post-break schedule on Friday night on a low note after dropping a 3-1 decision to the visiting Winkler Flyers.

The Stamps would strike first just 95 seconds into the 1st when Leyson Coleman would pick off a pass just inside the Flyer end and then walk in and go top-shelf on Dorin Luding for his 8th of the season to make it a 1-0 lead.

The score would stay like that until late in the 1st when Natham Poolman made his way into the Stamps' zone and slid a nice pass in the slot to Eric Fawkes who one-timed over the left shoulder of Mikael Foucher for his 2nd to even it up at 1-1 after 1 period.

After a scoreless 2nd period, the Flyers would notch the eventual game-winner just 3:38 into the 3rd as Garrett Szeremley would slide it across to Nathan Poolman in front and he would make no mistake to make it 2-1.

The Flyers would add some insurance with just over 2 minutes to go in the 3rd as Griffin Leonard beat Foucher short-side for his 20th the of the season.

It was a goal that the Stamps thought shouldn't have counted as the play should've called back because of a hand-pass, but after a conference the officials let the goal stand.

Doran Luding made 34 saves in the Flyer net to earn the victory while Stamps' net minder turned aside 34 shots as well in the losing cause.

The Stampeders' will go right back at it on Saturday night when they host the Neepawa Natives while the Flyers continue their road-trip visiting the OCN Blizzard for the first of two match-ups.
