Mils take Game 7 to set up Highyway 10 Sherwood Final

The Melville Millionaires were down 3-2 in the series but came back to defeat the Notre Dame Hounds in Double Overtime in Game 6 then defeated them 5-2 in Game 7 to advance to the Sherwood Final against their Highway 10 Rivals the Yorkton Terriers.

There was no scoring until 18:50 when Kyle Scabers long shot got through and past Ty Reichenbach for his 1st of the playoffs to make it 1-0.

Ian Williams would even it up at 1 early in the 2nd until Russell Trudeau would regain the Mils lead at 2-1 on the powerplay. Then after a big penalty kill the Mils would get first 2 goal lead of series as Colin Mospanchuk would make it a 3-1 Mils lead. But before the end of period the Hounds powerplay would cut it within 1 as Sam Aulie would finish off a nice passing play to make it 3-2 Mils after 2.

Just 2:25 into the 3rd period the Mils Would regain their 2 goal lead as TJ Reeve would pot the loose puck to make it 4-2. Then after a mad scramble in front of Alex Wakaluk where the Hounds had some glorious chances but then Michael Sagen would ice it to make 5-2 Mils win.

Alex Wakaluk stopped 35 of 37 shots for win while Ty Reichenbach stopped 34 in a losing cause. Both goalies and teams themselves deserve a lot of credit in one heck of a series.

The Mils will visit the Yorkton Terriers on Friday night for Game 1 of the Sherwood Conference Final at 7:30 at the FAA. Pregame 7:20, Pxp 7:30 on GX94.
** Tickets for Game 1 go on sale this morning (WED) at 9AM at the Gallagher Center.

  1. So proud of the Mills for winning this series after being down. If they play like last night and like they played after Christmas they will have to trouble getting past the Terriers. Work hard and play disciplined hockey. Go Mills Go.
