Terriers become Sherwood Conference Champs with Game 6 win over Mils

The Yorkton Terriers booked their ticket into the Canalta Cup Final against the Humboldt Broncos with a 5-1 Game 6 victory over the Melville Millionaires to capture the Sherwood Conference Final 4 games to 2.

It all got started 11:04 into the 1st period as Dakota Odgers would pounce on a loose puck for his 1st goal of the playoffs to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead after 1 period.

There wouldn't be another goal until the latter stages of the 2nd period and they both would be powerplay goals for the Terriers, and they got both goals from Dylan Johnson as he got his first 2 goals of the playoffs to give the visiting Terriers a 3 goal, 3-0 after 40 minutes of play.

In the 3rd and in the opening minute the Mils thought they had their first goal of the hockey game but it was waved off because of a Goaltender Interference penalty to the Millionaires' Ian McNulty. But they would open the scoring just under 8 minutes into the 3rd as Ian McNulty would deflect a Tyler Bird shot past Dawson McAuley to make it 3-1 Terriers lead. Then on a ensuing powerplay, Brady Norrish would get his 4th goal of the playoffs off a Mils' turnover at the blueline to make it 4-1, then B Norrish would ice it for good into the empty net for his 2nd of the night to make it a 5-1 Terriers final.

Dawson McAuley who was outstanding in goal stopped 35 of 36 shots for the victory while Alex Wakaluk, the SJHL MVP turned away 25 of 29 shots but was tagged with the loss.

Just another great and classic Highway 10 Rivalry, where both fan bases came out and supported their boys, crowds were loud, 50/50s were outstanding and great hockey displayed on the ice that is what Junior A Hockey is all about.

Congrats to the Yorkton Terriers they will now meet the Humboldt Broncos in the Canalta Cup Final (and cool fact from former GX94 PXP man Craig Stein as this will be the 9th straight year that either the Broncos or Terriers will appear the SJHL Final, but first between these two teams since 1991)

Stay tuned for the release of the Canalta Cup Final Schedule, early this week.

  1. Think series would have been a different story it the Refs were not so one sided.
Mills have way more talent but bounces would not go their way. Hope Humboldt takes them in 4 games and plays dirty like they do. About time they get back what they give out.
