Goberis nets OT winner to give Bruins' Game 1 win on home ice over Yorkton (SJHL

 

The Estevan Bruins took an early 1-0 series lead in their Best of 7 SJHL Quarter-Final on Friday night doubling up the visiting Yorkton Terriers 2-1 in overtime at Affinity Place. 


The Bruins would strike first in Game 1 as just 6:44 into a feisty 1st period and very early in their first powerplay attempt, 20 year old Matt McNeil would sneak it through the short side of Nathan Hargrave for his 1st of the playoffs to give the home team a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. Shots 13-5 Estevan.


After a scoreless 2nd period, the game would stay tied until Jared Legien would finally break through for the Terriers with 1:04 left in regulation as he would patiently wait out Bruins’ net minder Nathan Alalouf and slip home his 1st of the playoffs to make it a 1-1 game headed to the overtime period. 


The OT period didn't last long as just 48 seconds into to Zack Goberis (pictured above) would take it off the half way and go short-side top shelf on Hargave to give the home team the series opener. 

Nathan Alalouf made 29 saves on 30 shots to get the win for the Bruins while Terriers' net minder Nathan Hargave battled hard all night and made 33 saves in the loss. 

The two teams will go right back at it on Saturday night for Game number 2 at the Farrell Agencies Arena with pregame show getting going at 7:20, pxp at 7:30 on GX94 with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey. 

Other Game 1's in the SJHL had Nipawin beat Humboldt 4-1, Flin Flon were 4-1 winners over Notre Dame and the Battlefords North Stars edged the Weyburn Red Wings 4-3 on home ice.
