Mils lose 2nd straight on the road to the Melfort Mustangs on Wednesday night

The Melville Millionaires lost their 2nd straight on Wednesday night falling 8-1 to the Melfort Mustangs at the Northern Lights Palace.

The Mustangs got off to a quick start off the stick of veteran defenceman Loch Morrison as he would score 2 very similar goals, first on came on the PP just 1:50 in for his 5th of the season to make it 1-0. The Prince Albert product would add his 2nd of the night just 3:08 later, over the left shoulder of Josh King to give the home-side a 2 goal lead. Melfort added their 3rd goal of the period as defenceman Boedy Donald would finish off a nice passing play from Kalem Zary and go top-shelf for his 1st of year to make it 3-0 Mustangs after 20 minutes. Shots 14-8 Melfort.

The Mustangs would add to their lead with 2 goals just 1:55 into the middle frame off the sticks of Colin Schmidt and Loch Morrison (Hat Trick) to make it a 5-0 game. The Mils would get on the board with a PP goal half way through the 2nd period as Ethan Kopychyn would deflect home his 2nd  of the year and team-leading 8th point to make it 5-1. But Eric McNeilly would regain the Mustangs 5 goal lead with his 1st SJHL goal to make it 6-1 after 2 periods. Shots 26-18 Melfort.

Melfort would add a couple more in the 2nd period as Colin Schmidt would add his 2nd of the night early in the 3rd while Tyson Meyers would get his 2nd of the year with a late powerplay goal to give the Mustangs the convincing home victory.

Evan Plotnik made 29 saves for the Mustangs to get his 9th win of the season while Josh King and Colby Entz split the goaltending duties. King allowed 3 goals on 14 shots in the 1st while Entz made 22 saves on 27 shots in relief.

The Mils next game will be tomorrow night (Fri) when they visit the Battlefords North Stars before taking on Kindersley on Saturday evening.
