FL Flyers drop Game 1, 6-2 on road in Wilcox

The Foam Lake Flyers dropped a 6-2 decision on Sunday night to the Radville/Wilcox Nationals in Game 1 of their 2 game total goal SHA Provincial Senior D South Semi-Final.

The Nationals would strike first almost half way through the first period as Rylan Kaip would capitalize on a Flyer turnover and go top shelf on Derek Leidl to give his team a early 1-0 lead. The Flyers would respond through with 2 goals just 1:02 apart. First off on the PP, Zack Zadorozniak would finish of a nice passing play from Carson Kristjanson and then Shelby Gray capitalized on a rebound in front to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. But in the final minute Corey Koski would sneak one in short-side shelf with a beauty wrist shot to make it a 2-2 game after 20 minutes.

In the 2nd, the Nats would regain a one goal short-handed as Eric Calibaba would beat Leidl five-hole just over 2 minutes into the middle frame to make it 3-2. They would grab their first two goal lead a short-time later as Corey Koski his 2nd of the night on a beauty cross-ice feed from Lonny Forrester that made it 4-2 for Radville/Wilcox through 2 periods.

The home-side would add a couple more marker in the 3rd off the sticks of Lonny Forrester and Caley Bjork that game them a 4 goal Game 1 victory.

Rusty Abbott made 19 saves on 21 shot in the Nats net to get the win while Flyers G Derek Leidle turned aside 27 shots in the losing cause.

The two teams will meet in Foam Lake on Saturday for Game 2 of the two game total-goal series.
