CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Cole Keenleyside, Yorkton Terriers
1998 F Cole Keenleyside (Hazlet SK) helped the lowly Terriers pick up
rare back to back wins against the Kindersley Klippers as well as an
overtime point on Sunday against La Ronge Ice Wolves by contributing
4-goals and 2-assists in 3-games played. His big contest was a hat
trick in the second game against the Klippers on Friday, but he also had
three points against them on Wednesday. He played his 150th career
game as a Terrier on Sunday. He’s up to 15-goals and 12-assists in
51-games this year. Runner-up: Tanner Zentner, Melfort.
IBAS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:
Tyler Heidt, Melfort Mustangs
1998 D Tyler Heidt (Saskatoon SK) made a triumphant return from a
shoulder injury this week by picking up 2-assists in 2-games played,
including an assist in a win over the Nipawin Hawks on Saturday night
that ended the Hawks 3-plus month long unbeaten streak. Heidt, who had
been out all year, only needed 8:25 of the first period to get his name
on the scoresheet as he picked up a helper in a win over Flin Flon on
Friday. Fans aren’t likely to see much more of the talented blueliner
as he’s committed to Alaska-Anchorage for 2018-19. Runner-up: Josh
McDougall, Nipawin.
SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:
Brandon Wells, Melville Millionaires
1997 G Brandon Wells (Spirit River AB) backstopped his club to a pair of
victories this week, Tuesday over Kindersley, and Saturday over La
Ronge. On Tuesday, he steered away 22-of-24, and was perfect after the
first period as the Mils prevailed in overtime. On Saturday, he turned
back 27-of-28 and his teammates rallied for three in the third period
for a 4-1 decision. With Wells and Colby Entz both on top of their
game, the Mils may have one of the best 1-2 tandems in the league. He’s
4-and-5, 3.27, .902 overall. Runner-up: Joe Marcouiller, Yorkton.
MYSASK 411 SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Cody Bruchkowski, Yorkton Terriers
1999 F Cody Bruchkowski (Cochenour ON) has been a very consistent player
for the Terriers all year and he pitched in 4-assists in 3-games this
past week, helping Yorkton to a pair of wins and an OT loss in the
process. He picked up an asssist versus Kindersley on Wednesday, added
two more against the Klippers on Friday, and finished the week with a
helper against La Ronge on Sunday. Bruchkowski, actually, has 8-assists
in his last 4-games and now is up to 14-goals and 29-assists in
46-games. Runner-up: Jared Hamm, Notre Dame.
