The Melville Prairie Fire of the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey
League held another successful Face-Off against Cancer game this past Sunday
when they hosted the Weyburn Gold Wings at the Horizon Credit Union Center.
The Prairie Fire came out on top in the game 1-0, but Prairie Fire Head Coach Casey O'Brien says the score on this
day was secondary as the hockey club was able to raise a good chunk of money for
two worthy causes.
"Give credit to the girls and everybody involved for all their hardwork this weekend, we were able to raise just over $12,600, little bit over 3 thousand dollars for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and just over $9600 for 5 year old Austin Hollinger and his family as he has 9 more months of treatment here"
Hollinger was diagnosed with brain cancer this past year.
Although he underwent a successful surgery to remove the tumour, Austin
was left with Cerebellar Mutism Syndrome, causing partial paralysis.
Austin continues to fight to regain his ability to walk, talk and eat on
his own.
O'Brien adds the game and the event wouldn't be possible without everyone coming together.
"We can't thank everybody enough from everybody's donations and purchases, to my wife who oversaw the fundraising aspect, to the parents, staff and players of the organization stepping up, it was just all in all and outstanding event and weekend to apart of", O'Brien adds.
