Friday Night Local MJHL/SJHL Recap


The Virden Oil Capitals pulled three points up on Swan Valley for 3rd place in the MJHL's West division after a 3-1 win over the Stampeders on Friday night.

Tyler Thoendel opened the scoring in the first for the visitors short-handed to give them a 1-0 lead. 

But just 66 seconds later in the first period, Justin Keck responded for the Stamps' deflecting home a Adam Rajsigl point-shot past Bailey Monteith for his 7th of the season to make it 1-1 after 1 period.

In the 2nd period, the Oil Capitals regained their one lead as Carson Buyden's centering pass re-directed off a Swan defender and past Dylan Black just 4:45 into the 2nd for his 19th of the season to pull Virden ahead by a 2-1 score after 40 minutes.

Thoendel got the lone goal in the 3rd, icing the game into the empty net with 22 seconds to go to wrap up the scoring.

Oil Caps' G Bailey Monteith made 33 saves on 34 shots for his 7th win of the season, while Dylan Black made 22 stops in the loss.

The Stamps and Oil Capitals will meet for the 2nd game of 4 straight meetings on Saturday night back in Virden.

In the SJHL,

The Yorkton Terriers pulled back ahead of La Ronge for 6th place in the SJHL standings after a 6-3 win over the Ice Wolves on home ice. 

Karsten Kruska led the way for the Terriers with 2 goals, while Tyson Janzen, Zach McIntyre, Carson Henry and Kishaun Gervais scored singles.

Tye Evans scored twice to lead the Ice Wolves offensively.

Kael DePape made 29 stops to earn the victory in the Terriers' goal, while Xavier Cannon stopped 26 shots.

The Terriers' entertain the Flin Flon Bombers for an afternoon affair on Saturday starting at 2:00PM.


Alexis Giroux stopped 47 shots for his 1st SJHL shutout to lead the Melville Millionaires to a 1-0 win over the Flin Flon Bombers.

Noah Wills' 17th of the year was the only goal scored in the game.

Millionaires' look for their 2nd straight on Saturday welcoming the La Ronge Ice Wolves to the HCUC.
