The Wayway Wolverines got back into the win column, with a 4-3 shootout win over the visiting OCN Blizzard on Tuesday night.
The Wolverines would strike first at 11:36 of the 1st as Brandon Stanley would take a nice feed across from Landyn Cochrane (pictured above) for his 10th of the season to give the home team an early 1-0 lead. They would add to their lead with 2:45 to go, as Trevor Kavanaugh would hammer time home his 3rd of the season over the left shoulder of Emiliy Boily on the power play to make tit 2-1 Wayway after 1 period with shots 9-8 in favour of the home side.
The Blizzard would cut that Wolverine lead in half just 20 seconds into the 2nd as Brayden Dale would jam home his 6th of the season to make it a 2-1 game. The Blizzard would even it up with a PP goal by captain Brady Keeper, his 9th of the season to make it 2-2. The Wolverines thought they regained their one goal lead on a big cannon by Kevin Takatch, but it would be waved off due to the Blizzard net being off. Then just 2:04 later, OCN would grab their first lead as George King would notch home his 6th of the season to make it 3-2 for the visitors after 40 minutes. Shots 24-12 Blizzard.
The 3rd period would start with back and forth action until the Stamps would even it up as Jacob Bestul would sneak through the Blizzard goalie for his 3rd to tie it up at 3-3.
Overtime would solve nothing and then in the shootout, it would be the first shooter Landyn Cochrane getting the lone goal for the Wolverines to lead them to their 3rd win of the season.
McKenzie Chalmers made 28 saves for his 1st win for the Wolverines while Emily Boily made 19 saves in the shootout loss.
The Wolverines' next action will on Saturday night when they visit the Selkirk Steelers while the Blizzard wrap up their 2 game roady on Wednesday visiting the OCN Blizzard.
Elsewhere in the MJHL,
The Swan Valley Stampeders earned their 6th win of the season on Tuesday night, 6-3 over the Dauphin Kings.
The Stamps return to action on Saturday night when they host the OCN Blizzard at 7:30 from the Centennial Arena.
