Yorkton Terriers hire Mat Hehr as their new Asst. Coach

The Yorkton Terriers are pleased to announce the hiring of Mat Hehr as the team's new full time assistant coach. Mat will make his Terrier debut this evening on the road against the Weyburn Red Wings.
Familiarity of the SJHL played a key part in the hiring of Hehr to the Terriers. Mat has spent the past two seasons with the La Ronge Ice Wolves before resigning a few weeks after the firing of Head Coach and General Manager Shawn Martin. His is familiar with the Terriers roster as the Ice Wolves faced the Terriers in the Survivor Series that saw Yorkton get swept out by Hehr's old squad. 
The 28 year old Sherwood Park, AB native is in his third year of coaching full time. Before joining the Ice Wolves in 2015-16, he was the assistant coach for SUNY-Canton in the NCAA Division 3 level. His role as the assistant coach in Yorkton will be running the defense, breaking down video, planning practices, and assisting Casey with the special teams, pre scouting opponents and some administrative duties.
Prior to getting into coaching, as a Hehr was a honest two way forward who played three years for his hometown Sherwood Park Crusaders (2006-2009) in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Upon graduating from junior hockey, he earned a NCAA Division 3 commitment to State University of New York-Fredonia. He played four years at Fredonia (2009-2013) and earned a Bachelor Science degree majoring in Sports Management.
With the hiring of Mat, the Terriers have rounded out their staff after the promotion of Casey O'Brien to Head Coach and General Manager. Karsten Wagner and Scott Musqua will remain on staff in their roles as volunteer assistant coaches. Former Terrier and La Ronge Ice Wolves Assistant Coach Ron Holloway is the teams new Assistant General Manager. Garry Carson remains in the Director of Player Personnel/ Head Scout position.
The Terriers welcome Mat to the organization and the fans can see Mat make his Terriers home debut this Saturday November 12 against the Nipawin Hawks.
