The Swan Valley Stampeders remained perfect on home ice and improved their record to 13-2-1-1 on the season on Wednesday after blanking the Dauphin Kings 2-0 at the Centennial Arena in Swan River.
The Stampeders dominated most of the opening period and were rewarded for their efforts with a late goal as Quintin Sudom's long point shot would beat a screened Kings' net minder for his 10th of the season to give Swan a 1-0 lead after 1. Brad Goethals and Matt Osadick, who extended his point streak to 14 games, had the helpers on the Stampeders' opening goal.
After a scoreless 2nd, the only goal in the 3rd would come off the stick of 18 year old Matt Osadick as with just under a minute left he would find the empty net to ice the game to give the Stamps their 13th win of the season.
After being picked up from the SJHL's La Ronge Ice Wolves earlier in the day, 20 year old Merek Pipes (pictured above) earned a 22 save shutout in his debut in a Stamps' uniform while Brennan Kitchen on the other side was once again outstanding for Dauphin stopping 34 of 35 in the losing cause.
The Stamps will have a couple games this weekend starting on Friday night hosting former Stampeder Noah Basarab and the Selkirk Steelers before visiting the Neepawa Natives on Saturday night.
The Kings' next game will be tomorrow (Fri) when they host the Steinbach Pistons.
