Terriers; Stampeders both win on Tuesday Night

The Swan Valley Stampeders moved into sole possession of 1st place overall in the MJHL standings on Tuesday night after a 6-2 victory over the hometown Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

The Wolverines would strike first just 3:49 into the hockey game as Caleb Paisley would take a nice stretch pass from Garick Ripley and would go in alone on a breakaway and beat Merek Pipes for his 4th of the season to make it 1-0. But the Stamps would respond a short time later at 5:11 of the first on the power play as Matt Osadick would finish off a nice passing play from Campbell Balk for his 14th of the year to even it at 1-1. Swan would grab their first lead with 3:49 left in the opening frame as Brian Harris' nice back-hand would beat Isaac Labelle over the left shoulder for his 2nd to make it 2-1.  Brad Goethals would add a late PP goal from Brad Goethals to give the Stamps a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.

In the 2nd, Waywayseecappo would get the only marker as Gerrick Ripley would grab a loose puck in front and tuck it home past the Stamps net minder for his 1st as a Wolverines to bring it back to a one goal game once again at 3-2 after 40 minutes.

The Stamps would put the game out of reach in the 3rd with 3 goals in the final period off the sticks of Goethals, Josh Tripp and Alex Uryga to help them earn their 17th win of the season.

Merek Pipes turned aside 24 shots for the Stamps to improve his record to 4-1 on the season, while Isaac Labelle turned aside 31 of 37 shots in the loss.

The Stampeders will go right back at it on Wednesday night when they host the Virden Oil Capitals. Puck drop from the Centennial Arena in Swan River.

The Wolverines next action will be on Friday night when they host the Swan Valley Stampeders once again. GX94 will broadcast that game as well with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey, pregame 7:20, pxp will begin at 7:30 from the Wayway Arena Complex.

The Yorkton Terriers' earned their 3rd straight win on Tuesday night, doubling up the Estevan Bruins 8-4 at the Farrell Agencies Arena.

With the victory the Terriers pulled into a tie for 1st in the Viterra division with the Bruins, with Yorkton still having 5 games in hand.

Chantz Petruic (1G 2A), Cody Bruchkowski (1G 2A), Colby Brandt (1G 2A) and Cole Keenleyside (2G 1A) led the way for the Terriers with 3 points each.

Jared Legien, Dino Antoniadis and Aiden Bulych also scored for the Terriers who got a 29 save victory in goal from rookie Ryan Ouelette.

Bryce Platt had 2 goals to pace the offence for Estevan.

Yorkton earned their 13th win of the season on Tuesday, and that matches the win total for the hockey club from all of last season.

The Terriers will head back on the road on Friday night when they visit the Melfort Mustangs at the Northern Lights Palace before hosting the Humboldt Broncos on Saturday night for "Teddy Bear Toss" night at the FAA.
