Yorkton Cardinals taking one year leave-of-absence from WCBL in 2020

The Yorkton Cardinals are announcing they are taking a one year leave of absence from the WCBL in an effort to further solidify their financial situation and baseball operations.

The Cards, despite a 6-and-50 season, are pleased to announce they broke even financially on the 2019 year.

However, there remains a sizable debt that has been wittled down from close to $100,000 by about 40%. Both the league and team feel having a year to continue to raise money without accruing expenses will allow the team a good chance at long term success

Finances are only part of the long term stability of the franchise. A strong Board of Directors is required in order for the team to not only survive, but thrive.

In fact, it's been shown through tremendous corporate support already that this team can be very viable. It's believed Yorkton ranks at, or near, the top of the WCBL in sponsorship dollars raised. We need fans at the park and recognize a more competitive team is needed in order to win your support in this area.

If you are interested in being a dedicated member of restoring the Cards back to being a successful franchise and contributing to collegiate baseball in our city, please contact Mike at 306 621 5999. Even without a debt, this level of baseball doesn't work in our city if we don't have an enthusiastic volunteer base.

We look forward to returning with a strong plan and vision for the 2021 season.
