Feb 11th Local Junior A Hockey Recap

SJHL

The La Ronge Ice Wolves won the final meeting of the season series with Melville defeating the Millionaires 3-1 on Tuesday night at the Horizon Credit Union Center.

The Ice Wolves would strike first with 6:21 left in the 1st while shorthanded as Ty Budai's long shot would squeak through Berk Berkeliev for his 1st in the SJHL to make it 1-0.

Jake Gudjonson added to the visitors lead just under four minutes later as he made his way from below the goal-line and would drive to the net, his initial shot was stopped but his rebound wouldn't be as he beat the Mils' goalie for his 17th of the season to give La Ronge a 2-0 advantage after 20 minutes.

In the 2nd, the Mils got on the board late with just 9 seconds left as Jake Spak finished off a nice passing play from Grady Birk and Connor Nolan, as he cashed in on his 4th of the season to pull the Moneymen within one at 2-1 after 2 periods of play.

But that's as close as the Mils would get as La Ronge would add some insurance as Jake Gudjonson potted home his 2nd of the night to give his team the two goal lead.

Liam McGarva made 29 saves on 30 shots to earn his league-leading 23rd victory of the season while Mils G Berk Berkeliev 43 shots in the loss.

The Mils' will return to action on Friday night when they entertain the Estevan Bruins while the Ice Wolves' continue their road-trip on Wednesday visiting those very same Bruins at Affinity Place.
