Feb. 21st Local Junior A Hockey Recap

The Melville Millionaires dropped their 6th straight game on Friday night falling 6-1 to the hometown Nipawin Hawks.

The Mils would surrender the only goal in the 1st as with 1:29 to go, Michael Makaraenko walked across the blue-line and his wrist shot beat Kaleb McEachern over the right shoulder for his 17th of the season to make it 1-0 after 20 minutes.

Dawson McKenzie added to the Hawks lead just 91 seconds into the 2nd as he re-directed in a nice pass across from Caden Benson for his 14th goal of the year to make it 2-0.

The Hawks got one late from 20 year old Riley Bruce, his 4th that gave the home team a three goal lead through 2 periods.

Makarenko added his 2nd of the night just under 7 minutes into the 3rd before Carson Erhardt made it 5-0 with 3 minutes remaining in regulation.

Connor Nolan got the Mils on the board just 59 seconds later, before Bruce added his 2nd of the evening with 5 seconds remaining to wrap up the scoring.

Dalton Dosch made 19 saves in the win for the Hawks while Kaleb McEachern turned aside 39 shots in the loss in the Mils goal.

The Mils return to action on Saturday night when they host the Kindersley Klippers at the Horizon Credit Union Center.

Elsewhere,

The Yorkton Hyundai Terriers officially clinched the Viterra division title after a 3-1 win over the Kindersley Klippers at the FAA.

Ethan Robson, Keenan Taphorn and Alec Zawatsky all scored for the Terriers while Phillipe Bond made 43 saves on 44 shots to get the win.

Liam Frasers' 27th of the season was the only goal for the Klips.

The Terriers' return to action on Tuesday night when they host the Melfort Mustangs.

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines got their 28th victory over the season as they came back to defeat the Winkler Flyers 3-2 on the road.

Kieran Thiessen and Anthony Bilka scored third period goals for Wayway while Jaymes Knee had the other.

Wolverines' netminder Colin Ahern made 25 saves on 27 shots in the win.

Eric Fawkes and Alex Cattani did the scoring for the Flyers.

The two teams will once again meet on Saturday in Winkler at 7:30.
