Pesenti's solid in debut as Terriers defeat Weyburn on Monday Night

The Yorkton Hyundai Terriers captured their 2nd straight win on Monday night defeating the Weyburn Red Wings on home ice, 3-1 to move back into 3rd place overall in the SJHL standings.

The game was a make-up game for a postponement from late January.

The Terriers would strike first just 9:26 into the 1st as Tyson Janzen snuck back-door from his blue-line position and took a beautiful pass from Keenan Taphorn & tapped home his 3rd of the season to make it 1-0.

It would stay like that until late in the 1st as the Red Wings evened things up on the powerplay as Dante Ballarin sent a shot in from the side boards that somehow snuck through the five-hole of Matthew Pesenti for his 5th of the campaign to make it 1-1 after 20 minutes.

In the 2nd, there would be only one goal scored and it would come in the final minute from Terriers' F Steven Norum as he would grab it off the draw and work his way into the high slot and hammer it through Joseph Young for his 9th of the season to give his club a 2-1 lead after 2 periods.

The Terriers' would get the lone goal in the 3rd as well as local product Colby Vranai added some insurance as he picked off a clearing attempt by Red Wings' Kabir Gill and then went in and sniped it top-shelf for his 2nd that wrapped up the scoring.

G Matthew Pesenti in his Terrier debut turned aside 23 of 24 Red Wing shots to earn his 4th victory of the season while Weyburn netminder Joseph Young made 37 stops in the loss.

The Terriers' will go right back at it on Tuesday night when they entertain the Nipawin Hawks from the Farrell Agencies Arena. Puck drop is at 7:30 and the Hawks come into the game, one point behind Yorkton for 3rd place.
