Stamps lose Game 3 in Virden 6-2; Still lead series 2-1

The Swan Valley Stampeders still got a 2-1 series lead in their Best of 7 Sherwood Division Semi-final but they fell on Thursday night 6-2 to the Virden Oil Capitals.

The Oil Caps came out with a bang and had a lot of good chances and they would score for the first time, the first goal as former Yorkton Terrier Curtis Oliver would slip one by Cole Holowenko for his 2nd of the playoffs to give the Oil Caps an early 1-0 lead. It would sit like that until 1:39 remaining in the first frame, when BJ Avery would finish off a nice passing play and go forehand, backhand past Adam Iwan for his 1st of the playoffs to make it deadlocked at 1-1 after 1 period.

In the 2nd, the floodgates would open as the Oil Caps would get all 3 goals in the 2nd period off the sticks off Arty Kalashnikov, Jake Dudar and Ben Williams to give the home team a commanding 4-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

The Stamps needed a big 3rd period to get back into the hockey game, but they didn't get it as Wyatt Kalynuk and Cole Hamblin would get 2 more markers for Virden to give them a big 6-1 lead. The Stamps would add one late by Braydon McDonald, but it wasn't enough as they lose 6-2.

Adam Iwan stopped 25 shots for the Oil Caps, while Cole Holowenko turned aside 32 in a losing cause.

The Stamps continue to lead the series 2 game to 1, and will host Game 4 on Saturday night at the Centennial Arena in Swan River 7:30 MB time start.
