Terriers' Thomson sets SJHL Single Season Shutout Record

If Yorkton Terriers goalie Kale Thomson wanted to make his final regular season of his junior career with his hometown team a memorable one, he did so in a big way. The recently turned 21-year old's 8 shutouts during the 13/14 regular season is a new SJHL record for shutouts in a single season breaking the old mark of 7 put up by former Humboldt Bronco goalie Taylor Nelson.

Thomson's 10 career shutouts, all with the Terriers puts him in a 2nd place tie with Nelson behind only former Weyburn Red Wings goalie AJ Whiffen who has 11 career shutouts.

He finished the season with a record of 31-11-3, 1.89 GAA & a 0.934 SV%.

Thomson and the Terriers will have just under a couple weeks between games as they wait to see who their first round opponent will be from the Survivor Series. If the Estevan Bruins win their series, the Terriers will play Nipawin or Notre Dame. If the Flin Flon Bombers beat the Bruins the Terriers will battle the Bombers in the SJHL Quarter Finals as they would be the lowest seed from the Survivor Series.

Humboldt Broncos goalie Ryland Pashovitz also got into the SJHL record books recording the lowest GAA in league history at 1.60.

I caught up with Thomson to talk about the record.
