Terriers drop Game 5 in Nipawin; Stamps lose in MJHL Semi-Final Opener to Steinbach

The Nipawin Hawks staved off elimination on Friday night defeating the Yorkton Terriers 4-1 to now trail the Terriers 3-2 in their Best of 7 SJHL Quarter-Final

The Hawks would get on the board first in Game 5 just 9:39 in as Jordan Simoneau would beat Ryan Ouellette short-side to make it 1-0. They would add to their lead just under 2 minutes later as Jaxsen Wiebe's long shot would take a big bounce off the end boards right back to him and he would jam it home for his 2nd of the playoffs to give Nipawin a 2-0 lead after 1 period.

It would be back and forth 2nd period but the Terriers would get on the board late as Branden Klatt would sneak one through goaltender Patrick Pugilese for his 4th of the playoffs to get the Terriers within one after 40 minutes.

But that’s as close as the Terriers would get on this night as Carson Erhardt would add one late in the third and Jake Tremblay would cap it off with an empty netter as the Hawks stayed alive.

Patrick Pugliese in his 1st career SJHL playoff start stopped 23 shots for the win while Ryan Ouellette made 33 saves in the loss.

The two teams now will meet for Game 6 in Yorkton on Sunday night and GX94 will broadcast the game with Yorkton Dodge Junior hockey, Sask Milk Pregame begins at 7:20 while PXP kicks off at 7:30.
