Mils fall on the road; Wolverines get first W of 2019 in Jan. 9th Local SJHL/MJHL Recap

The Melville Millionaires had their five game point streak come to an end on Wednesday night after they fell 2-1 on the road to the Melfort Mustangs.

The Mustangs would get on the board first just 4:43 into the 1st as Jake Hobson would walk in from the high-slot and his big slapshot would beat Colby Entz over the right pad for his 8th of the year to make it 1-0. Melfort would add to their lead just under 4 minutes later as Justin Ball would finish a nice individual rush going fore-hand, back-end past Entz for his league leading 41st of the season that gave his team 2-0 lead on the Millionaires after 20 minutes. Shots were 16-9 Mustangs after 1.

Luke Spadafora would get the only goal of the 2nd period to pull the Mils within one as he would finish off a nice passing for his 11th goal of the season that made it a 2-1 lead for Melfort after 40 minutes. Mustangs still were in front on the shot clock by 30-18 margin.

The Mils had some quality chances in the third period but in the end the period would be a scoreless one as the Mustangs held on for the one goal victory.

Shawn Parkinson turned aside 28 of 29 shots for the Mustangs to earn his 12th victory of the season while Mils goalie Colby Entz made 36 saves in the loss.

The Mils still lead the Red Wings by 3 points for the final playoff spot in the MJHL standings and they visit Weyburn for their next game on Friday night. GX94 will broadcast the game with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey, "Sask Milk" pregame show starts at 7:20, PXP begins at 7:30 from the Crescent Point Place.

In the MJHL,

Anthony Bilka scored twice, and Issac Labelle made 31 saves to lead the Waywayseecappo Wolverines to their first win of 2019 as they beat the Winnipeg Blues 3-2 at the Wayway Arena Complex.

Greg Lee also scored for the Wolverines while Ty Naaykens had both markers for the Blues.

The Wolverines will be back in action on Saturday night for their 3rd meeting in less than a week against the Portage Terriers at Stride Place
